No. Capital punishment is wrong - on MANY levels: - Mistakes happen. In the last 35 years in the U.S., 133 people have been released from death row because they were exonerated by DNA and other new evidence (DNA is not available in most homicide cases). - It costs taxpayers MUCH more to execute someone than to imprison them for life. - It is not a deterrent - violent crime rates are HIGHER in death penalty jurisdictions. - It is inconsistently and arbitrarily applied. - Jesus was against it (see Matthew 5:7 & 5:38-39, James 4:12, Romans 12:17-21, and John 8:7). - Life without parole (LWOP) is on the books in most states now, and it means what it says. People who get this sentence are taken off the streets. For good.

It never occurred to me that there might be a Christmas caroling contest in prison?!

Never heard about it before, so I guess we don't have it in California. Sounds cool, though. Maybe could give people from other religions a chance to sing their favorites from their cultures, too.

No Arizona isn't the only correctional system to hold contests during christmas. A lot of facilities hold special events /privileges to promote good behavior and a calm enviorment during holidays as some inmates tend to miss their family and become hostile.

All sorts of things happen in prison that you may not expect. The inmates have to keep themselves amused and out of trouble. Contests like this are one good way to do that.

Yes, I agree with you, she looks Hispanic and her surname 'Arias' also sounds Hispanic. Whatever ethnicity she is, her appearance is sweet looking. But for the vicious crime she is charged with, her kind looks may be very deceiving. I've been following this case somewhat on Good Morning America and also some news reports. The little I know is that Travis Alexander, her boyfriend who she is accused of brutally murdering, was a Mormon. When Alexander met Arias and after they began to date, she converted to Mormonism. I'm thinking if she is of Hispanic background, she may have been Catholic. But that's only a guess. I'm Catholic and live in the Salt Lake City area where there are a lot of Hispanic Catholics and Hispanic Mormons.

Ho Lorie, I believe she may be guilty, only to the facts: Jodi Arias is accused of shooting her ex-boyfriend in the face, stabbing him 29 times and slitting his throat from ear to ear. If this isn't a case of over kill then I for one can't begin to even comprehend she killed him in self-defense. Beauty has nothing to do with a horrific crime such as this!

I'm guessing she is bipolar at the very least and also has other mental illness, sociopath, psychopath, borderline personality disorder....people who have these disorders are usually estranged from their family. Why? Because their family knows them too well and they try to hide all the terrible things they do from their family. Not because they are sorry. They don't want to be questioned and they don't want to have to do anything for their family or anyone else. They have no feelings of any kind for others. They care only for themselves. I have been searching for any news about her family as well. I haven't found anything.

It's really hard to say, but I'm leaning towards guilty. All the evidence points to her, and whenever I see her being interviewed I get the feeling that she's hiding something. So do you think she murdered him or no? Why or why not? thanks. just curious.

GUILTY as sin. My biggest problem with the "self-defense" claim is, she stabbed him 29 times and shot him post martem ( after death ) That is overkill. However there are many other issues, includig she gave THREE different stories, attempted to destroy evidence ( the camera and SIM card in the washing machine ) she rented a car and dyed her hair to attempt to disguise her activity, and brought a gun into his home. not to mention she slashed his tires twice and stalked him before the murder. And don't forget she lied to the police including the head detectve, whom she called the day after his body was discovered. Oh and I forgot to mention she had no defensive wounds on her after the attack and her boyfriend has no history of abuse against her. Any doubt now??

Obviously, you are way behind on the trial. Arias has confessed to the murder of Alexander. Evidence was overwhelming. Watch "In Session" on tru tv as the trial is in progress. She shot him in the cheek and the bullet went thru his head, she stabbed him 27 times with many stab wounds in his back and she cut his throat from ear to ear. She gave several false stories and lied over and over again until the evidence against her was presented and proved she murdered him. The death penalty is on table. She is claiming self-defense. Alexander's friends say he dumped her and she was enraged and stalked him and was obsessed with him. His tires were slashed, She wanted to marry him but he definitely said he would never marry her and was dating other women.

But he was wrong to lead her on that way. He was judging her and telling her, her parents would be ashamed of her when he was "sinning' the same way she was. They both could have walked away. He called her a stalker, but then he was still having sex with her. He could have controlled himself. And if she was a stalker, then he would have gotten a restraining order. He was most likely leading her on and taking advantage of the fact that she was madly in love with him. Im sure he knew she wanted more. She is guilty and should not be allowed walk away from this terrible crime. But come on he was not an angel himself. What do you think?

Should I use split P.O.V's? Alli Sane

In my first book I had the point of view split between my main character, Aria,and her love Callum, switching off every chapter. Now in the sequel Callum is permanently out of the picture, but Aria is going to fall in love again with Tyler. I was wondering if I should add his perspective. And then I was even considering adding Aria's friend and former juvenile prison roommates, Alexis, who comes to stay with 17 year old Aria, her perspective as well, but I'm not sure

I really loved it when Jodi Picoult did at least seven P.O.V changes in My Sister's Keeper, and that book was met with so much critical acclaim. It switched between Jesse and Anna and Kate, Brian and Sara and Julia and Campbell in chapters. It helped because no chapter had titles. They were named after the character. Chapter one would be Anna, and Chapter two would be called Campbell, and when they published it, the fonts were different with every other character, so the reader could kind of recognize the switches. And the languages were different, the people they interacted with changed - because you know, for instance, that only Brian talks to Red and someone like Kate wouldn't. So every time you see "I look at Red" or something, it reminds you of who you're reading. So it shouldn't be a problem. In fact, it's what I'm trying to implement for my own novel too.

do you like the name 'Cleft' for a girl? parrot rebels

My aunt's kind of a hippie. She's having a baby girl in November and the name at the top of her list is 'Cleft'. She thinks its a pretty name, but I think its outright weird! She also likes: Chakra, Starshine, Stump(!), Echo, Nug ... and some others that I forget - but were in the same vein. Do you like any of those names? Does anyone know of a semi hippie name that I could suggest to her thats more normal? I suggested Sky but she likes the more obscure ones.

Clef sounds too much like cleft pallet. Which is a facial deformity, not nice. I say go with Echo, that ones actually pretty. (Btw Stump, and Nug?!?! They sound like slang for a malformed "you know what", definitely avoid those) Remind her of some uncommonly used english words that sound nice, like serendipity (A happy unforeseen event, very cute for a child. Very hippyish too) Or just some nice ones serenity ( the state or quality of being serene, calm, or tranquil; sereneness) Very nice name Tranquility Dharma ( In Hinduism (Or Buddhism) it is ones righteous duty, i.e. doing good things.
