What shares can be traded on the UK London Stock Exchange where you don't have to pay stamp duty? by Mick D
Q: I know that COLT, HGM, PRTY, and RRS are four stocks on the LSE where you don't have to pay stamp duty? What are the others, is there a list somewhere? I believe I don't have to pay stamp duty on these because the companies are based in another country that has laws where stamp duty does not get paid or something. If you could help me with this, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!
A: exchange web sites and Government web sites give you precise details.
Does the London Stock Exchange have a premarket session? by m
Q: And if so, how can I view it? I use Scottrade in the US, and so I can't even get real-time quotes for non-US exchange traded stocks, let alone premarket. I usually look to Yahoo Finance for the .L stocks.
Thanks!
A: You can load orders onto LSE from 0750 am and then there is an aucton at 8am, you can see these prices if you have LEvel2, but you cannot trade on the order board until 8am, a market maker may make a premarket price but that would be over the phone. I hope this helps.
How does the London Stock Exchange work? by Sharp
Q: How do I buy into a stock, how do they send me the money ect?
A: You cannot purchase directly from the London Stock Exchange. Only members who have purchased "seats" on the exchange can trade stocks on the exchange. These seats cost hundreds of thousands of pounds.
You can purchase a stock through a stock broker, or from a online brokerage account, but first, you have to open an account, which will cost a lot less than purchase a seat on the exchange.
How do I trade on the London Stock Exchange? by steve
Q: I recently started a Scottrade account and now I am wondering if there is a way for me to trade stocks from the LSE. I am of course at work when the NYSE is trading and I am thinking that I might be better off trading on the London market which will be open when I am home. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
A: Hmmm, I believe you can do that through Interactive brokers or Etrade.
Scotttrade does not allow that.
Do not be scared of the higher commissions, these brokers provide good tools and education plus lots of great features which in my opinion is worth more than scotttrades low commissions.
Think if it this way, you plan to make thousands in the markets, why try to save a few dollars on each trade if you get better stuff elsewhere.
Of course if you trade a lot then it might make sense to stay where you are.
Another thing is always trade in markets where you get lots of info. LSE might be convenient but do you know the companies , way things work there?
See if my blog helps you out

Why are stock prices on the London Stock Exchange so low? by Ravensman04
Q: If I am correct, the LSE quotes its prices in pence and a pence is 1/100th of a British pound (like a cent is to a dollar). So as an example Tesco is trading at 435. This is 435 pence so that is 4.35 pounds which at the current exchange rate of 2 pounds to 1 dollar is about just $9.7. Is that correct? Why then are stock prices so much lower in the UK than they are in the US? Or am I mistaken about that?
A: A $10000 investment still costs $10000. In England you just get more shares. But, remember, each share probably represents a smaller piece of the total company than is typical with a US quoted company. It's just a custom of the market place.

Recommend a mainstream broker that can trade on London Stock Exchange? by El Queso Grande
Q: I use TD Waterhouse and E-Trade, but neither of these give me the ability to trade on the London Stock Exchange (online or over the phone). I am looking to occasionally buy and sell shares of British companies. Any recommendations?
A: If you're in Canada, TD can certainly place orders on London stock exchange for you. So can any other broker.
Trades cannot be done online as far as I know. Must be phoned in. Problem is the commissions are quite high. About $150.00.
At least one online brokerage offers London and other foreign exchange trades at ultra low commissions. It's Interactivebrokers. Dot com for the US, dot ca for Canada. Warning: IB has sophisticated software, an experienced clientele, is not for the average retail investor.
I am an American stockbroker and am to move to the Uk to be w can i work on the London Stock exchange? by sarah b
Q: I am to move over to be with my british girlfriend and work on wall street and want to know can i work on the London stock exchange or do i need a visa, different qualifications?
A: Yes, you need a work visa. Plus, you usually need to be sponsored by a UK company, and it's not as easy as you might think. It also must be done while you are here in the US. Getting a work permit once there on a tourist visa is next-to-impossible. BTW without a student or work visa, you can only stay 90 days. Granted, you can always go over to Paris for a week and come back for another 90 days.
